Camping Options In Calasparra
After being closed for many years, during 2008 the Calasparra
town hall has renovated and modernised their small but comprehensive camping in nearby woods locally known as Los Viveros. The camping is
operated by a very friendly Jose and his family who will make you most welcome. To it’s credit the facilities now include 16amp power to
all hook-ups, potable drinking water, heated showers, pool, mini-market, and adjacent, the privately operated Restaurant Los Viveros which
is also owned by the town hall. The camping area is set in thick Pine trees which give respite on hot summer days but can prove cool to
live under at other times. The camping is situated approx. 5 kilometres from Calasparra in the direction of the urbanisation Tierra de Sol
and the Sanctuario. Sadly, although the winding access road has been resurfaced it has been left quite narrow and difficult to pass another
caravan coming in the opposite direction. Camping rates are set on a piecemeal basis and accumulated costs can be quite high. Log cabins are
also available to rent.

Alternatively, adjacent our own home, in the tiny village of La Ñora approx. 4kms. out of Calasparra on the Valentin road we have over
one acre of flat gravelled land with easy access directly off the main road. Surrounded by a new and attractively decorated high wall, the
parcel is accessed via a 6m wide remote controlled sliding gate. Potable water is provided via a newly installed city water connection and
a dump station is available to discharge your cassette or onboard waste water tanks. We also have a pool, barbecue, open fire pit to sit
around on those balmy nights, and laundry facilities should you need them. Free internet connection by Wi-Fi is also available.
With caravans, campers and American RV’s, between 1988 and 1999 Marie and l have travelled through 34 countries around the world. Between
1999 and 2005 we were also involved in the salvation of an ailing Spanish campsite, converting part into a 70 strong mobile home park, hence
we are very definitely campers and understand the needs of people who come to stay with us.
Just 2kms. from our home lies the village of Valentin which has a long established bakery where fresh morning products are baked in a wood
burning oven. There are also a selection of small shops and bars, all of which produce excellent tapas and menu of the day meals. For fishing
enthusiasts there is the El Argos reservoir where you can fish for Carp and Barbel. A fishing licence to cover two rods is available at the
Calasparra sports shop for just 14€ per year.
For some time now, Iberdrola, the electricity supplier has been trying to get a resolution between themselves and local land owners to
install high power cable pylons on their lands, and at recent meeting between ourselves and Pepe Velez, deputy mayor of Calasparra, it was
confirmed that a route has now been agreed. Once installed we will be able to request a higher electricity supply to cover all our needs,
however, until that installation is complete we are only able to offer electricity to recharge a low leisure or phone battery should that
become necessary. Toilet and shower facilities are not generally available, although there is a dump station and potable water.
Marie and l first began buying properties in Calasparra in January 2004 and have seen the progress the local and Murcia town halls have made
to the infrastructure since that time. It is a lovely area of N.W.Murcia and we sincerely hope you will come and visit us, however, l have to
make it quite clear that we are not a campsite and you will be welcomed as friends, not paying guests. Proud of our new inland location, both
Marie and l will do whatever we can to make your visit as pleasant as possible. Your visit to our home will be free, but a 10€ per unit per
day donation to our expenses would be appreciated.
If there is anything more we can assist you with, we will be more than pleased to hear from you. Please contact Jim or Marie on landline
