Valentin Fiestas 23rd to 29th June 2008

If you enjoy the atmosphere of inland village fiestas please be advised that just a few kilometres from Calasparra in N.W.Murcia, the small but very friendly village of Valentin will hold it's week long fiesta from 23rd June. During this time the fiestas organisation will be providing their usual free bocata breakfast with free beer, wine or tinto verano in the village square, or you can buy an artisan coffee from close-by cafes. Later in the morning small cows are run through protected areas of the village, an event mainly for children. During the fiestas the organisers will again be providing a free quality giant paella made on a wood fire in the street, and on another day an equally superb all you can eat BBQ, all with free beer, wine or “vino tinto verano”. During the evening various live bands and music entertain in the village square, and the atmosphere is excellent throughout. Come and join in the fun.

Calasparra Fiestas & Encierros 1st to 8th September 2008

If you enjoy the atmosphere of an inland small town fiesta please be advised that on the first week in September, Calasparra in N.W.Murcia will be holding it's annual fiesta and encierros. Calasparra now comprises around 10,000 original super friendly inhabitants along with up to 3,000 British newcomers over the past couple of years, so there is a lovely mix of cultures in the town. Bull running through protected areas begins at 10am sharp each day culminating at the Plaza de Toro where for just 3 euros you can watch the bulls and local teens play cat and mouse in the same arena. Beer tents are erected in the town centre where tasty tapas are on hand while “menu del dia” and “a la carte” meals are available at street terrace restaurants. As with most fiestas a free giant paella will be provided and daily celebrations go on late into the night.

While in the Calasparra area, which this year celebrates the Jubilee year of the towns Patron “Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza”, (Our Lady of Hope) why not take time to visit Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegin, Moratalla, Mula, Bullas or the wineries of Jumilla.
